Short Studies
This short studies practice was adopted 2022 during my MFA Dance and Embodied Practice year one. I completed a series of independent short studies and documented them through videos, some of which were shared on social media, some kept, and some deleted as a way of practicing remembrance, documentation and erasure. It became a way of collecting fragmented embodied explorations and epiphanies along the way of the rich embodied river of practice that was my first year of MFA Dance and Embodied Practice at Roehampton University.
Woman
This was international women’s day for me, an early morning in the studio before heading to work on a Saturday. Exploring embodied self-portraiture and how women navigate and otherwise arrange the threads of their lives over the past few months with this practice has been one of the many threads I’m picking up in my doctoral work.
Yellow Room
Pajaros from "My Blueberry Night" | 45 seconds
Andante Spianato, Op. 22: Tranquillo by Frederic Chopin | 33 Seconds
An exploration of repetition and proper whiplash responding to Anna Teresa De Keersmaekers (1994) Achterland.
Unknown | 20 seconds
Witching Hour
Coucou by Django Reinhardt| 36 seconds
Tapping into my @kate.monson Crucible, accused as a witch, alchemy vibes today. Enjoying my long walk to school through the medieval-dated Richmond Park, I marveled at my ability to dance, and be paid to dance. The kind of dancing I do now would have seen me ostracized or much worse in my community just a few centuries prior. So, for me, today, it is a marvel I get to be a dance alchemist.
Jade-Craft
Sjolin by the Danish Quartet| 11 seconds
Concerto for Violoncello and Strings by Kristina Blaumane, Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, Maxim Rysanov | 20 seconds
Addressed as a 'mature dancer' for the first time not in reference to ability, but to age. Stepping into my jade phase. Most of the time I record in silence after having worked with a score prior to filming. Today I think my body had a jaded memory of the score that manifest in my silent dancing.
